Ingredients

Method

  • Grab the biggest bowl you can find.
  • Chop up any big pieces of dried fruit. I've tried using the food processor to chop up the dried fruit. Works pretty well! You can toss a handful of oats in with the dried fruit, to keep things from getting super stuck together.
  • Sift together the dry ingredients.
  • Store in your freezer to help prevent the oils in the mix from going off.
  • When ready to prepare, portion out ~ 80 grams of dry mix, and add ~ 200 mL plant milk. You might want a bit less milk if you like your oatmeal thicker. Put it in the fridge for at least 8 hours. Overnight is usually perfect. You can prep a bunch of containers up to a day or three in advance.

Notes

  • Yields around 15 servings.
  • Great served with an extra splash of plant milk, nut butter, any in-season fresh fruit. Nice tart apple chunks can work nicely.
  • You don't have to make this in a big batch like this, but it's pretty nice and convenient if you do. I usually make two of these batches at once, which yields 30 servings, and lasts me about a month.
  • You can vary the dried fruit, and add nuts and seeds and so on. Pumpkin seeds are one of my favourite things to add.
  • Tea preparation option - heat up the milk, then steep it with your favourite tea, before mixing it with dry mix and letting it sit in the fridge overnight. Lends a really nice flavour.
  • Nuts option - crush your favourite nuts, and mix them in before soaking overnight. I like pistachios and almonds. You could also do this as part of the dry mix.
  • Nut butter option - mix in a teaspoon of your favourite nut butter when you prepare for extra creaminess. This is a great alternative to the powdered peanut butter.
  • Spice options - experiment with other spice blends, rather than using cinnamon. I like cardamom for example. Nutmeg is also nice.
